Indian Tennis Girl: Inspiration

This is my inspiration in the form of a photo collage for my project combining my love for tennis and Indian wear.

Indian Tennis Girl: Developlment-1
I took to my sketchbook to create the designs as well as the atmosphere through paint, fabric and string.

Indian Tennis Girl: Development-2

I experimented and developed the looks on my dress-form and made different accessories using clay. Other colour palettes that I tested and eliminated through trial and error are also shown here.

Indian Tennis Girl: Final Outcome

This is the completed fusion collection which celebrates Indian culture as well as the versatility of Tennis wear.

Urbanisation of Hyderabad: Inspiration

This is a mood board I created which displays my love for Hyderabad as well as the flipside of the urbanisation of Hyderabad. It shows the things I love about the city can have adverse effects if one unveils the notion of development.

Urbanisation of Hyderabad: Development-1

I wanted to create a two-look dress; one dress that turns into another. For that I had to make several sketches before I came up with a creative and viable design. I wanted to show the skyline of Hyderabad on the top and other things like the roads and Mughal motifs on the bottom. These are Look 1 designs and they represent my love for Hyderabad.

Urbanisation of Hyderabad: Development-2

For Look 2 I wanted to show the ills of development and so I experimented with elements of acid rain and fire to give the design that message.

Urbanisation of Hyderabad: Development-3

I made a model on my dress-form testing my design with multiple materials like satin, tulle and paper. I also made a belt out of dried leaves.

Urbanisation of Hyderabad: Final Outcome

This is the final outcome. I hand drew and coloured the designs using colour pencils.

Upcycling Project: Inspiration
The Drama club put up a play, and I was the costume designer. The play was set in the 1800s in Britain, therefore I took inspiration from the clothes they wore back then as well as what was described in the play. This is the photo collage I created as inspiration.

Upcycling Project: Development

I had to reuse materials the school already had to make the costumes. I experimented with many different designs. I used soft pastels to give a worn and rugged look to better fit the theme and setting of the play.

Upcycling Project: Final Outcome

These are some of the photos of the final designs on the day of the play. Some dresses were made from scratch using old curtains and tablecloths and some were reused and altered from old costumes.

Internship Work: Inspiration
I did an internship with a traditional Indian designer, and these were the inspiration photos and references he told me to use for the designs.

Internship Work: Development-1

Before creating the final design, I practiced by drawing hundreds of flowers so the finished piece would flow naturally. The designs on the right were done on tracing paper.

Internship Work: Development-2

I traced the design on watercolour paper, chose a colour palette and painted the design with watercolours. The designer asked me to add dark and light shades to the flowers.

Internship Work: Sample Outcome

This is one of the samples that came back. The other designs are still being woven using a traditional handweaving method called Jamdani which will take more time to complete.

Rockstar project: Inspiration

This was a group project I did at a design workshop in Mumbai which is certified by Parsons: The New School, NYC.

We were to create a garment using a song as the inspiration.

Rockstar project: Development-1

I created a mind map after capturing the essence of the song 'Tango for Taj' in just 20 minutes with supplies I had right in front of me. Each one of us created our own mind maps.

Rockstar project: Development-2

I created a photo collage with cut up images as a mood board displaying the boldness of the Spanish dance and music.

Rockstar project: Development-3

These were the sketches I made with the given restrictions. The designs had to be simple enough to make while showcasing the essence of Spanish flamboyance perceived in the song.

Rockstar project: Development-4

I draped the under-dress, hand sewed the skirt and made the belt while the other two draped the rose and painted it with diluted acrylic paint. We added a slit to the dress to convey the groove and the passion of the song.

Rockstar project: Final Outcome

The final outcome was professionally photographed and was displayed at the college exhibition. I was awarded a certificate by Parsons: The New School, NYC at the end of the workshop.
